Bradford Council’s Bereavement Services are at the forefront in delivering a high quality and sensitive service to a wide range of faiths and cultures across the District via 23 cemeteries and 3 crematoria. There is a total of 19 staff based at area offices at Bradford, Shipley and Keighley who are under the daily management of the Bereavement Services Manager. In addition the Service has responsibility for the monitoring of grounds maintenance and grave digging to ensure appropriate standards are met with in-house and external contractors.

We are now seeking an experienced individual to develop the service. The role reports directly to the Assistant Director of Culture, Tourism & Sport and as such you will be expected to play an active role in the Leisure Services Management Team.

You will be a team player with a tactful approach towards problem solving and a positive attitude towards the provision of high quality services to all sections of the community. You should have a minimum of five years experience in bereavement management and development at an influential level and experience of project management, managing budgets, managing teams of staff to high performance levels and contract management.

With either a degree or equivalent or a relevant professional qualification or over eight years experience in the areas outlined above and willing to undergo further learning and development.

You should also be able to demonstrate knowledge of relevant legislation and the Charter for the Bereaved and possess a clear grasp of and experience in using information technology as it relates to the post.

The basic week is 37 hours, although the person appointed would be flexible as there will be a requirement to attend occasional evening meetings. A flexi time scheme is in operation.
